Clear UV Extra keeps the clear, natural finish you know and trust, now with advanced UV protection that helps timber hold its warm, freshly finished look for longer. Unlike standard clear coatings, Royal Exterior Clear UV Extra uses advanced UV absorbers and light stabilisers to help protect both the coating and the timber beneath. By reducing UV-driven degradation of lignin within the wood, it helps minimise greying, weathering and the gradual breakdown that can lead to coating failure over time. The newest finish in our award-winning Royal Exterior range, it brings together an easy-to-use, water-based clear coating and advanced light-stabilising technology, so the natural character of your wood stays looking its best, season after season.

Developed by our Somerset-based timber coating specialists for the demands of the British outdoors, Royal Exterior Clear UV Extra uses advanced UV absorbers and light stabilisers to help protect the finish, the timber, and its natural colour through sun and weather. The result is excellent colour retention and a clear, natural look that lasts.

Why UV Protection Matters

Sunlight naturally breaks down lignin within timber, causing greying, weathering and surface degradation. Over time this can affect both the appearance of the wood and the performance of the coating.

Royal Exterior Clear UV Extra uses advanced UV absorbers and light stabilisers to help protect both the timber and coating from UV-related damage, helping maintain clarity, colour and long-term durability.

How to Apply

For the best long-term protection and durability on bare or new timber, we recommend using Protek Wood Preserver ++ and Royal Exterior Clear UV Extra together as a synergistic protection system.

Step 1: Apply two coats of Protek Wood Preserver ++ to penetrate, protect and prepare the timber, helping to guard against moisture ingress, fungal decay and biological attack.

Step 2: Apply three full coats of Royal Exterior Clear UV Extra to provide advanced UV protection, helping to preserve the natural appearance of the timber while protecting both the coating and the wood beneath from weathering and degradation.

Together, Wood Preserver ++ and Royal Exterior Clear UV Extra work in synergy, combining deep timber protection with advanced surface UV defence to maximise the service life and appearance of exterior timber. A simple maintenance coat each year keeps timber looking its best for longer.
