Timber C16

At Build4less, we offer a wide range of C16 graded timber and C24 graded carcassing sawn timber. C16 timber is ideal for use as roof rafters, ceiling and floor joists, and partition work, to name but a few applications. C24 timber is about 50% stronger than C16 and can bear heavier weights over wider spans. Humans have been using wood to build shelter for 10,000 years. If you're about to construct a building from creating your own home from scratch to erecting a simple partition wall in a room youll be needing some C16 or C24 graded timber.

C16 and C24 timber refer to the strength of the wood and tell you what type of construction work it is suitable for. The British Standards list twelve strength grades in their Structural Use of Timber standard, but the most commonly used are C16 and C24. When it comes to choosing the type of timber you need, C24 can be used for the same applications as C16 but is also more suited to outdoor uses. This is because it is grown from slower-growing trees, which results in a denser wood ideal for outdoor decking, shed bases, posts, sleepers, and wider roof spans.

Our C24 treated carcassing timber is a good option for most builds, as it is available in a wide range of sizes and is useful for pretty much every situation indoor or outdoor, hidden in the walls and roof of a building or on show in the garden.

  • 25mm x 50mm x 4.8m
  • 25mm x 38mm x 4.8m
  • 25mm x 38mm x 4.2m
  • 47mm x 200mm x 4.8m

These treated timbers are ideal for external structural works such as framing, roofing, and flooring, where extra protection against the elements is necessary.

Untreated C16 Timber Carcassing

For interior projects or where additional treatment is not required, our untreated C16 timber carcassing options are a great choice. Available in dimensions such as 47mm x 100mm x 4.8m, these are suited for internal structural applications like stud walls, floor joists, and roof rafters. Untreated timber provides a natural and traditional aesthetic and can be custom treated if needed.

Selecting the Right Timber for Your Project

When choosing the right timber for your project, consider the following:

  • Environment: Treated timber for damp or outdoor environments; untreated for indoor or dry areas.
  • Load Bearing Requirements: Thicker and wider timber for heavier loads.
  • Dimensions: Select the size that minimizes waste and meets structural requirements.
  • Treatment Needs: Decide if you need pre-treated timber or if you will treat the timber yourself.

Our range of C16 timber carcassing products caters to various construction needs, ensuring strength, durability, and versatility for your building projects.
