What type of board is used for wooden window sills?
Window sills made from hardwood such as maple, mahogany or oak are often used as they are durable and can provide additional insulation to the room. They are also easily accessible, making them a popular choice of item to install in homes. Wood window sills come in different sizes and styles to accommodate different window openings so that no matter how narrow the opening is, you can still find wood window sill of size and style to suit your needs. If the hardwood window sill is going to be kept natural in order to show off its unique wood grain, it will need ongoing maintenance, however, painting the wood window sill a certain color provides an extra design element besides retaining all its original benefits. Particleboard as an alternative may sound like a better economical solution; however it tends to expand when exposed to humidity or water which is not ideal for something that’s supposed to keep moisture from entering into your home.
How thick should window boards or window sill be?
At our hardwood window sill store, we understand that the size of your item is essential. That’s why we offer two hardwood thicknesses: 18mm and 25mm. Our oak sill and square edge wood arrive in these convenient measurements, ensuring you find an option to suit any window board size and fit perfectly with your home decor. No matter which measurement you choose, you can rest assured that our products are always produced to the highest possible standard.
What size wood do you use for window sill?
Window jambs are hardwood pieces usually 3/4 inch thick and mounted on the inside of a window frame. When putting in a new window sill, it's important to consider the thickness of the sill compared to the jamb beneath; there should be at least 1/2 inch more space between them. This extra space allows air to circulate within the frame and prevents moisture damage caused by trapped condensation. For sills that require extra insulation due to their hardwood construction, a solid wood top edge can be put into place, or an edge wood plank may need to be included so that it is level with the hardwood above. Making sure there is ample space for proper installation and airflow will ensure no issues arise for years down the road as windowsill integrity is key in home-building maintenance.
