How To Fit Door Hinges In 5 Easy Steps
Installing a door may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be! With the right tools and supplies, you can hang a door in five easy steps. We’ll walk you through each step so that you can get the job done quickly and easily. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Measure & Pre-Drill Holes for the Door Hinges
First things first you need to measure the height of your doorway and mark where the hinge fitting should go on both the door frame and the door itself. You will want to make sure that you are measuring from the top of the doorway down, as this will ensure that your door hangs properly. Once you have marked out where all of your holes should go, pre-drill them using an electric drill with a bit size suitable for your screws. This will make it much easier for fitting door hinges.
Step 2: Install Your Hinges
Now that all of your holes are pre-drilled, it is time to start attaching those hinges. Place each hinge into its respective hole and then use wood screws to secure them in place. Make sure that all of your screws are tight. otherwise, they could become loose over time and cause issues with how your door hangs or opens/closes.
Step 3: Align Your Door
Once all of your hinges are attached, it is time to align your door so that it fits into its frame perfectly. To do this, open up your door as wide as possible and then use shims behind each hinge to adjust its position until everything lines up perfectly. Once everything is aligned, remove any shims you used and then reattach any screws if necessary. Note that some doors come pre-fitted with adjustable hinges which make this step even easier.
Step 4: Attach Your Door Handles & Knobs
The next step is installing the hardware on both sides of your door the handle or knob on one side and the latch on the other side (if applicable). To install these pieces of hardware, simply use wood screws or machine screws depending on what type of hardware you are using. Make sure all screws are tightened securely so they don’t become loose over time.
Step 5: Test Out Your New Door
Finally, once all of these steps have been completed successfully it’s time for testing! Open up and close your new door several times just to make sure everything works properly before calling it a day. If something isn’t working correctly or feels off in any way, go back through each step again until you find where something may have gone wrong or needed further adjustment.
