How To Install Cladco PVC Decking
Step 1: Preparing the Surface
Before you begin installation, it's important to ensure that the surface on which your PVC decking will be installed is clean, dry, and level. If necessary, use a levelling compound to even out any bumps or dips in the surface. Once the surface is level, you can begin to lay the decking.
Step 2: Installing the Substructure
The substructure of your PVC decking should be made from pressure-treated timber or composite materials. It's important to ensure that the substructure is strong enough to support the weight of the decking and any furniture or other items that will be placed on it.
When installing the substructure, ensure that it is level and that the joists are spaced no more than 400mm apart. It's also important to ensure that there is adequate ventilation beneath the decking to prevent the build-up of moisture.
Step 3: Installing the PVC Decking
Once the substructure is in place, you can begin to install the PVC decking. The decking boards should be installed perpendicular to the joists, with a gap of at least 6mm between each board to allow for expansion and contraction.
When cutting the decking boards to size, use a circular saw with a fine-toothed blade to ensure a clean cut. It's also important to ensure that the ends of the boards are cut at a 45-degree angle to prevent water from pooling.
To fix the decking boards to the substructure, use stainless steel screws or hidden fasteners. Screws should be driven in at an angle to prevent splitting, and should be countersunk to ensure a flush finish.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
Once the PVC decking is installed, you can add the finishing touches to complete the look of your deck. This might include adding skirting boards or fascia boards to cover the edges of the decking, or installing lighting or railing systems.
It's also important to remember to regularly clean your PVC decking to keep it looking its best. Simply use a soft-bristled brush and warm soapy water to remove any dirt or debris, and rinse with a hose.
