Changing Door Handles

Replacing your door handles can be a daunting task. But with the right tools and knowledge, it’s a task anyone can do. Changing door handles is a great way to update the look of your home and make it more secure. Let’s take a look at what you need to know and the steps you’ll need to follow to change out your door handles successfully.

Tools You'll Need

The tools you will need for this job are pretty basic, most of which can be found around the house. The tools necessary for this project include A screwdriver, a Phillips or a flathead depending on the type of screws holding the handle on A drill or drill bit, depending on whether you are replacing an existing handle or installing new hardware. A hammer or mallet And finally, pliers. These four items should give you everything you need to get started.

Removing Existing Hardware

Once you have all of your tools gathered together, it’s time to start removing the existing hardware from your door. Start by unscrewing any screws that are holding the handle in place with either a flathead or Philips screwdriver. Once all of the screws are removed, use a hammer or mallet to gently tap on any stubborn pieces that may remain connected to the door frame. Once all of the pieces have been removed, carefully pry them away from the door frame using pliers if needed.

Installing New Hardware

Now that all of the old hardware has been removed it's time to start installing new hardware in its place. Begin by measuring where exactly you want your new handle installed and mark it with a pencil so that you know where it will go later on when installing door handle. Next, use either a drill bit or a power drill depending on what kind of screws came with your hardware package to create holes for them in your door frame. Now line up each hole with its corresponding screw hole and insert each screw until they are firmly in place and secured tightly against the door frame. Finally, test out each handle repeatedly before closing up the shop and make sure they work properly without any issues before calling this project complete.

The Benefits of Changing Door Handles

Enhanced Security

One of the key benefits of changing out old door handle replacement for new ones is improved security. Many modern door handle designs offer enhanced protection against forced entry by utilizing stronger materials and better-locking mechanisms than those found in traditional options. Additionally, many newer styles also feature integrated locks activated through the handle itself, making it even more difficult for a potential intruder to gain entry.

Improved Usability

Old or worn-out door handles can often be difficult to open and close, making them inconvenient and frustrating to use daily. Upgrading to newer models with improved ergonomics can make opening and closing doors much easier especially if you have elderly or disabled people living in the house who might need extra help using door hardware.

Updated Aesthetics

When it comes to updating the look of your home, door handles are often overlooked in favour of more obvious changes such as paint or furniture. But upgrading your existing hardware provides an easy way to give any room an instant facelift without having to do any major renovations or redesigns.
